Self-Branding

Self-branding is an important factor in online marketing. Most people in business, online or off, have the concept that people buy “stuff.” I can tell the ones who just don’t get it based on all the hype I see online. They hype you up by showing you cars, big houses and stacks of money, but these folks just don’t get it! People don’t buy “stuff,” they almost always buy PEOPLE first! Besides, is all that "stuff" theirs?

That’s why “self-branding” is so important. Think about your last major purchase. Was it just the product that sold you; or was it the person who presented the product to you. I can recall all the sincere sales persons I have met over the years. I like buying from trustworthy and helpful people. I hate self-serving and pushy salespeople. I can bet that you do to. But the guy or gal that went out of their way to help you is probably the person you bought from, even though the product may have cost you a little more.

I have been in sales for over 15 years and I can say that I never SOLD a thing! I have made millions of dollars for my company, but not by making a sale! I sat down, listened to my prospects and presented them with a viable solution to their problem. They trusted ME; they liked ME, and they bought from ME. They could care less about the company I represented. Who they trusted was ME. In my business, I promote Michael Puskas, not “stuff.” My experience says, "If they like ME, they will buy my 'stuff'.”

Marketing on the internet is more challenging. The World Wide Web is a black hole, filled with all kinds of “stuff.” How can you know who is behind this “stuff?” You don't, and that is why you have to market YOU. The best way that I know to market YOU is to write. When your write, you convey what’s on your mind and what’s on your mind represents YOU and what makes you tick. If your writing is effective and conveys you as a helpful, honest, thoughtful person, you will get rich! Why, because that is the kind of person that most people want to be involved with. Therefore it is important that you have the right mind-set when you write. If you are depressed, negative, or out-of-it in any way, that will be conveyed in your writings. Now let’s talk about two methods of writing that will get attention online. The tow methods are Article Writing and Blogging…

Article Writing

Article writing is a very simple and effective way to SELF-BRAND. It is just putting your thoughts on paper.

I personally have lots of ideas. I can be listening to a motivational CD or reading an article or listening in on a conversation and get an idea for an article.

Just the other day I was listening to a portion of a CD from Nigtingale Conant and Tony Robbins was speaking and made a very outstanding statement, "Focus controls your feelings and questions control your focus." That little statement gave me an idea for an entire article. Sometimes I will be driving and an idea may just pop into my head to write about. I believe the reason for this is because I am always looking for fresh ideas for article writing. Seek and you will find!

You may be gifted in a certain area of life that may be useful to others. Let's say you are into health and you have all kinds of knowledge about good health that would be beneficial to others. If that is the case, write what you have down and submit it.

You may be gifted in motivation, sales, relationships, you name it and you can write something about it. The ideas are endless. However, whatever you write needs to convey your feelings and be beneficial. If your feelings are conveyed and benefits are realized, then you have succeeded.

I have seen folks write articles that promote "stuff." They talk about how rich THEY are and how many cars THEY have and how big THEIR house is. This kind of self-branding, to me, is a turn-off. Rather give people good information that will help them succeed and you will have a friend forever.

Article writing takes time. You will need to submit at least 25 articles to get noticed online. Right now, if you Google Michael Puskas I will show up #1 on the Google search engine as an expert author. I am #2 on Yahoo and #2 on MSN. So, if someone wants to find out about me, they just Google my name and start reading about what I have to say. The same can happen for you too. You just need to start.

Now, let's talk about where to submit your articles. There are two good places. Both places will require you to sign up as an author. It is very easy. Just go through the steps. The two websites are:

The search engines seem to love these sites the most.

An important feature on these websites is the ability to write a signature line (sig line). This feature allows you to give a brief bio about yourself and let's you provide up to two (2) links to URL's (websites) that you want to promote. There are rules, so be sure to read and follow them.

Blogging

A Blog is an online journal. It is a vehicle that you can use to promote YOU. You can have several Blogs but each of them should have a theme. So far, I only have one and I call it ONLINE MLM SUCCESS SECRETS. The purpose of this blog is to help people with tips and ideas to be successful with their MLM business online. Much of what I write has to do with changing concepts as well.

You can start your Blog for free! I use Google. The website to sign up for your own Blog at Google is at:

http://blogger.com

When you sign up you will need to come up with a name for your blog. Think about this carefully and pick a good name. Google will let you know if it is taken or not. After you pick a name follow the instructions and you will be on your way to Blogging. The Google Blog is very easy to figure out. If you have any challenges, let me know.

Another suggestion is to get a decent picture of yourself and upload that to your blog so people can see what you look like. This helps in your self promotion efforts as well. One person recently said that she has seen me everywhere online. Well, I don't know if that is true, but I must be gaining some headway! Anytime you can use video or audio, do it. It all help in getting the message of YOU out to your prospects.

You can go there, sign up, for free, and Blog your heart out. However, if you join, don't be a deadbeat. Get involved, join some groups and Blog weekly. The more exposure the better. MLM Jive is pretty new and those on it now can reap great benefits later as more people join. However, your success will depend on your activity.
